The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), which five of its plants having a total capacity of 2,115 megawatts (MW), are on a “forced outages” today, prompting a declaration of yellow alert over the Luzon power grid.
When the energy generated from these plants is insufficient for the regulating requirements, a “Yellow Alert” is issued.
From 1:00 p.m., the yellow warning may last up to to 8 p.m. as mentioned on NGCP’s Facebook post.
Five power plants, according to NGCP, are needed to be shut down, while three are operating at reduced capacity. The peak demand is 10,455 megawatts, while the available capacity is anticipated to be 11,166 megawatts. Rotational brownouts may occur if the demand for energy exceeds the available capacity.
